C6 Corvette Track Toy: LSX-Powered, Cammed, Straight-Piped, and Loud!

When it comes to American sports cars, few can match the performance and character of the C6 Corvette. This particular C6, however, is not your average example. With a fully track-prepared build, this LSX-powered monster is throwing down serious numbers and turning heads everywhere it goes. The Build

This C6 started life as a stock 2008 base model. However, after blowing up the original engine, the owner opted for a serious upgrade. Under the hood now sits an LSX engine with a stage four Brian Thule cam. The car originally made 430 horsepower and 424 foot-pounds of torque at the engine. After the engine swap and cam upgrade, those numbers have increased to just below 500 wheel horsepower and 480 foot-pounds of torque. The car is still naturally aspirated, and the original transmission is still in place. The clutch has been upgraded to the LS7 unit from the Z06.

The Exhaust

The exhaust system on this C6 is where things get really interesting. The headers are American Racing 1 and 7/8 inches, and they’re connected to a custom X-pipe. From there, it’s straight pipes all the way back, with the mufflers removed. The result is an incredibly loud exhaust note that’s impossible to ignore. In fact, the car is so loud that it’s not allowed at certain tracks due to noise restrictions.

Suspension and Handling

This C6 is fully prepared for track duty, with a host of modifications aimed at improving handling and performance. The suspension has been upgraded with custom coilovers, sway bars, and end links. The car is also equipped with custom aero components, including a front splitter, side skirts, and a rear diffuser. The owner has also installed ZR1 front and rear fenders to accommodate wider tires. The car rides on signature wheels, which measure 18 inches in the front and 19 inches in the rear.

Driving Impressions

When it comes to driving this C6, the first thing you notice is the sound. The exhaust note is deafeningly loud, even at idle. Once you get moving, the car feels incredibly quick and responsive. The upgraded suspension and aero components make a huge difference in terms of handling, and the car feels planted and stable in corners. The overall driving experience is one that’s hard to match in any car, let alone one that’s nearly 15 years old.

Exterior Modifications

In addition to the functional upgrades, this C6 has also received a number of cosmetic modifications. The car is wrapped in bright orange vinyl, which really makes it stand out on the track. The owner has also installed a number of carbon fiber accents, including a rear spoiler and mirror caps. The car sits low on its custom wheels, giving it a menacing stance that’s sure to turn heads wherever it goes.
